Singer Seal’s Nails Might Have Just Created a New Trend

by Nail Schools on June 26, 2012

Trends in nail art seem to steer toward different hues. Even chrome polish was a big hit at one time, and the “it” thing. Recently, crackled polishes let us know that the world of nail art is far from being done with giving us surprises. The vibrant shades of colors have given us hope that we haven’t seen all the colors of the rainbow quite yet, and the gold flakes in lacquer have presented us with the concept that spending a little money on our nails might just be worth it. However, the latest trend seems to be men dabbling in manicures and at-home nail treatments.

This fad began with rock stars like Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper and the band KISS who were notorious for flaunting painted nails. Boy George also was a celebrity who rocked lacquer on his fingers. Once the music genre emo became popular, teenage boys everywhere who listened to Green Day began polishing the tips of their fingers with midnight black nail enamel.

Now that 2012 has arrived, R&B singer Seal even has showcased his fingers with a dash of color. On an episode of The Voice, the Kiss from a Rose artist wore a vibrant shade of yellow polish. When we say vibrant, we mean fluorescent.

Seal isn’t the only man to display his fierce manicure in public. In fact, even Risky Business actor Tom Cruise exhibited a mani, no pun intended. On the cover of W Magazine, Tom and models Edita Vilkeviciute and Abbey Lee Kershaw posed wearing matching nail art. Tom may have been tattooed with black eyeliner, which is unlike him; however, his black nail enamel might just be what will take men wearing nail polish into the mainstream. And we’re not just taking about a clear coat either.

Ever since Seal showed off his vivacious color choice, more men are going to nail salons then ever before. They’re even experimenting with bright, bold shades. Some of men, nonrockers and noncelebrity, are even wondering over to their local drug store, so that they can paint their nails at home.

So what do you think? Do you think men sporting colorful nails is a new trend?
